National Symbol of BHUTAN

1. National Flag of Bhutan

The National flag of Bhutan is the symbol of independence.  The upper yellow part signifies the secular authority of the king. The lower orange part signifies the religious practice and spiritual power of Buddhism. The white dragon represent the name of our country as Drukyul; purify and loyalty of the Bhutanese people.


2. National Anthem

In the Kingdom of Bhutan adorned with cypress trees,
The Protector who reigns over the realm of spiritual and secular traditions,
He is the King of Bhutan, the precious sovereign.

May His being remain unchanging, and the Kingdom prosper,
May the teachings of the Enlightened One flourish,
May the sun of peace and happiness shine over all people.

It is the patriotic song  where we sing it proudly every morning in school and during the important events as it gives us a sense of pride and happiness of being as the Bhutanese. So we call it as GYALYONG TENZHUG 

3. National Dress

Gho and Kira are the traditional dress of the people of Bhutan. Though the dresses are a part of the cultural identity, the law mandates government officials to wear them.

 Gho refers to the traditional dress of men of Bhutan. It is a knee-length cloth tied at the waist with a cloth belt 

known as kara.

The kira is the national dress for women in Bhutan. It is an ankle-length dress consisting of a rectangular piece of woven fabric.

4. National Day

December 17th, National day of Bhutan celebrate in each year , commemorates the coronation of the first king of Bhutan.  National holidays bring people together and foster a sense of national unity and pride. They provide an opportunity for citizens to celebrate and honor their country, its history, culture, and achievements.

5. National Language 

Dzongkha is a language that is the official and national language of Bhutan. It symbolizes the identity and sovereignty of our country 


6. National Flower

It is the Blue Puppy locally known as "Tsherngoen Meto" usually found at the higher altitute




7. National Tree  

Cypress is the National Tree of Bhutan. Locally, it is known as 'Tsenden Shing'

They are associated with religion, and may often be found near the religious structures and in the temperate zone between altitudes of 1800m and 3500m. To the Bhutanese, its ability to survive on rugged terrain represents bravery and simplicity.
8. National Bird 

The national bird is the raven. As noted above, it the most prominent component of the royal crown.
 In Bhutan, the raven represents the deity Gonpo Jarodongchen, the raven-headed Mahakala, one of the country's chief guardian deities.

9.National Game
Archery is the national game of Bhutan. Bhutan became a member of the United Nations in 1971. The same year Bhutan declared archery as its national game. Archery is played during religious and secular public holidays in Bhutan.
